Understand and apply project credits

Use approved reductions against eligible project invoices.

Project → credits; invoice → payment controls

Before you start

You need an available credit on the same project and an eligible invoice with an outstanding balance.

Step by step

  1. Find the credit

Open the project’s credit section and review the credit source and remaining amount.

  2. Open the invoice

Choose the invoice for that project. Check its outstanding balance and existing payments before applying credit.

  3. Apply available credit

Use the invoice’s project-credit action when available. Review the amount and confirm the application.

  4. Verify both balances

Check that the invoice’s outstanding amount and the project’s remaining credit reflect the application.

What happens next

Applied credit reduces the invoice balance without recording a new cash payment. The amount used is no longer available for another application.

Good to know

A negative approved change can create project credit. Credit is not a cash refund and does not count as incoming money in the Payments report.
